What to expect from interviews at Impression
We know that interviews can be a little daunting, that’s why we want to make the process as straightforward and enjoyable as possible.
The interview structure
We’ve developed a standardised approach to all of our interviews across the business to ensure we remain fair and consistent. All candidates for all roles are assessed against the same set of criteria and will be given the same amount of time to complete tasks, unless reasonable adjustments are required.
1. Phone screening calls
An introductory 15-minute interview, this will consist of a few admin questions, a chance for you to elaborate on your experiences and also a chance to ask questions with a member of the People Team.
A first-stage interview will be offered if successful in this stage. We would be looking for someone that aligns with our values.
2. First-stage interview
This 45-minute interview will be centred around your relevant experience and technical skills-based questions linked to the role you are applying for.
The job description will highlight the skills and competencies needed for the role and will give you an insight into what we will be assessing you against.
At this stage, it’s likely that those interviewing you will be a Head of Department or Senior Manager. We will always inform you ahead of time who will be present during your interview.
3. Second-stage interview
If you are successful in your first interview, you will be invited to a second stage interview with a diverse hiring panel again that will last around 45 minutes, this may include those at different levels of seniority in the team, alongside the head of department/managers.
You may be asked to complete a task ahead of your second interview, and if this is the case, the start of your interview will be dedicated to discussing the work you have produced. Following on from that, the hiring panel will ask you a series of behavioural questions based on Impression’s culture and values.
4. How to prepare!
Here are a few suggestions as to how you might want to prepare ahead of your interview:
→ If you have been given a task to prepare and present, make sure you thoroughly know your work!
→ Think about the key competency areas in the job description.
→ We use competency based questions, STAR method will help to structure your answers:
1. S - situation. Set the scene.
2. T - task. Talk about the task in hand.
3. A - action. Describe how you carried out the action.
4. R - result. Describe how your actions and behaviours impacted the situation.
Most importantly, be yourself! We are keen to hear all about your passions and motivations and we want to learn what makes you, you.
5. Dress code
Whatever you’re comfortable in. We’re quite casual here at Impression, so please feel free to dress appropriately but as the best version of you.
