So, you're interviewing with us? Here’s the inside scoop for success
Hey there! I’m Clydie, the Talent Manager here at Impression, and I lead the recruitment process. I wanted to let you in on a few secrets of what we are looking for
I know interviews can feel daunting, but at Impression, we don’t want any candidates to feel this way. We’re not here to trip you up or catch you out with "gotcha" questions; we want the interview process to be as enjoyable as possible!
To help with those nerves, I’ve broken down exactly what our process looks like and what I’m actually looking for to give you the confidence for a successful interview.
Our first chat (intro phone call) ☕️
This is usually where I take the call. I am part of the People team, so this is where I will introduce Impression and really start the conversation.
Think of this as a "virtual coffee." I’m not going to grill you on technical experience.
- What I’m looking for: Energy and intent. Why did you hit 'apply' on our job post? There will also be some practical questions about your notice period and salary expectations.
- The Vibe: I am looking for great vibes that suit our friendly, collaborative and flexible culture. We don’t believe in “culture fit” and want you to bring your authentic self to this call- we value diverse perspectives.
- My Advice: Be honest about what you’re looking for in your next role. If you want a place that prioritises B Corp values and professional growth, tell me! It helps me figure out if we can actually give you what you’re looking for.
- Remember: Interviews are a two way thing, you need to make sure that Impression is right for you! I am happy to answer any questions you have, whether this is about our culture or the stages of the interview process, and I will carve some time out so you can ask me anything you are unsure of.
The first interview (Technical interview)
If I feel you have the right attributes for the role, I will invite you to meet the hiring team within the department. This is where we dig deeper into your relevant experiences that relate to the role you have applied for.
- The Focus: We’re a results driven agency. We want to hear about the campaigns you’re proud of.
- The Request: Whether you’re asked about ROAS or technical SEO audits, we are less interested in a textbook definition and more interested in how you applied that knowledge to help a client grow.
- My Advice: Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It’s the best way to make sure your brilliance doesn’t get lost in the story!
The second interview (The task)
This sounds scary I know, but rest assured if you have got to this stage we believe you have the capabilities for the job, therefore the task should be a tool for yourself to really show off what you can do. We will give you plenty of time to look through the task and make sure you have the right amount of prep time.
